The Shelter – Reused Underground Bar, Shanghai

I’m liking The Shelter a new music venue situated in a disused underground bomb shelter. The Xuhui district has over 200 of these disused bomb shellers which were originally built during the 1970s over fears of air raids from the Soviet Union and The Shelter is a creative use of the unused space.

The bar has an edgy alternative atmosphere attracts big name DJ’s offers a cool night out. A labyrinth of tunnels combined with concrete walls and dark lighting the bar is not for the faint hearted of claustrophobic, the bar stands out among the more commercial ventures. Most importantly it is ecological cheap to run due to the drop in subterranean temperatures which leads itself to  reduced running costs.
